How do we do it?
We apply a chemical activator (Cre-away Pro) which starts work immediately:
First – A reactive agent neutralizes the slightly acidic creosote making it less corrosive to metal components and less flammable.
Second – A dehydrator absorbs the oils and moisture contained in some forms of creosote.
Third – A combustion inhibitor helps reduce the chance of chimney fires.
Finally, a magnesium catalyst helps break down third-degree creosote when the flue is heated by normal use
I can then remove the modified soot using professional power sweeping equipment.
Please note: The creosote removal service will require 2 visits approximately 6 weeks apart, in extreme cases a third visit may be necessary.
Before
Tarred flue in need of specialist cleaning.
During
Flue has been swept and treated.
After
Flue has been swept for the final time.
Ensure your flue is properly cleaned and maintained
Some Insurance companies will no longer pay out for chimney fire damage unless the flue has been swept and maintained by a professional chimney sweep who can issue a valid certificate of sweeping recognised by the insurance companies themselves. It is extremely important to keep your chimney clean from soot and blockages, helping to prevent a fire in your chimney or harmful gases being released.
The build-up of third-degree creosote is usually the result of:
- The chimney is cold or insufficiently insulated
- Burning of unseasoned timber
- Insufficient ventilation for the appliance
- An oversized flue for the appliance
- incomplete combustion
